The Kenwood TM-281A and 481A tranceivers are reliable compact and simple to use radios that can be user programmed by entering a frequency, moving up and down from that frequency with the knob and then you can store the channel into memory - the way it's been done for 40 Yrs, without the now common faffing around with lots of menu items and multiple button pushes. All the major functions of the radio are simple, and you only delve into menus to change things like CTCSS tones, or frequency steps. The front facing speaker has bags of loud, clear audio, so handy for installation in vans as well as quieter cars. They also make good radios to use at home or in the office, connected to a 13.8V standard power supply.
